Meet Cheska! What a joy it has been to know this precious girl since 2013. She came to us as a very special gift just two days before Christmas, and it has been our great privilege to watch her grow surrounded by love and care.
Cheska was born eight months earlier that year with cerebral palsy and a condition that affects her nervous system. From the very beginning, her caregivers have cherished the opportunity to learn about her unique personality—what consoles her, what brings her joy, and how she communicates her feelings and needs in her own special ways.
Cheska is a sensitive and sweet girl who finds comfort in closeness. When she is held in her nanny’s arms, her body relaxes as she responds to the assurance of safety and security. Her nannies know just how to soothe her—sometimes with gentle rocking, other times with soft words, or a quiet song playing in the background.
Books are another favorite part of Cheska’s day. She loves being read to, her eyes following each page as her nanny turns it. Two of her favorite stories are Moving Your Body from Head to Toes and Fruits and Vegetables. She seems to take in the rhythm of the words and the bright, happy pictures. It always creates a moment of calm connection between her and her loving caregiver.
Cheska also delights in soft, plush toys, hugging one close to her chest often. The texture and warmth seem to bring her much peace. Music is another source of comfort. She enjoys listening to songs or to the sounds that drift across the room from the television. Sometimes the melodies are so soothing that she drifts off to sleep right where she is, her soft toy still in her arms.
The caregivers at the Hope Healing Home describe Cheska as a tender and gentle soul. Though she faces daily challenges, her spirit shines through in quiet, beautiful ways. Every smile, every relaxed sigh in her nanny’s arms, is a reminder of the love and security that embrace her.
