House of Hope
Luoyang is located in the central Henan province, just two hours west of Zhengzhou. The greater Luoyang area has a population of roughly 6.5 million people. Situated on the central plain of China—one of the “cradles” of Chinese civilization—Luoyang was one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China.
Our facility in Luoyang, Maria’s Big House of Hope (MBHOH), is the largest facility in our network and currently cares for fifty-six (56) children. The building was named in memory of Maria Sue Chapman who passed away about a year before it was opened and dedicated. The building is six stories tall, and the first three stories consist mainly of nurseries. The 4th and 5th floors house our Preschool, Physical Therapy and additional play areas. The 6th floor has accommodation for long and short-term staff and visiting groups. This unit is funded 100% by our partner Show Hope. MBHOH has been in operation since the summer of 2009 and we have cared for over 1,100 children in this facility alone. MBHOH functions as the center of our work in Henan.
All of our Special Care Centers are designed to care for some babies who are not expected to live, as well as those who have medically correctable conditions for whom we find the best medical solutions possible. We do not take this responsibility lightly and are very grateful that the local Children’s Welfare Institutes have entrusted us with their care.
